About

A small school that matches a teacher to the student — not a pipeline

Axioma is a team of teachers. Each covers one area, learning is built around the specific student, and progress is tracked the whole way.

Maxim Shabunin

Hi, I’m Maxim

This is my fourth year of tutoring, and my students get into the schools they aim for. At Axioma I’m in charge of mathematics: OGE, VPR and EGE, grades 3 to 11, plus first-year college.

  • MGIMO, Faculty of Financial Economics
  • I teach courses at MGIMO Junior: “Fundamentals of Financial Literacy”, “Digital Literacy”, “From First Prompts to Seeing AI as Your Best Study Companion”

“Almost all my students came from courses where the syllabus was formally covered but never actually explained.”

Hence the school’s principle: first understand what the student already knows, and only then make a plan — not the other way round.

How we got here

The Axioma story

Fourth year of tutoring

Maxim has been tutoring for four years — his students get in. Alongside that he teaches courses at MGIMO Junior.

The idea

The idea was a format where you see a real teacher — who is teaching, what they studied, what results they get.

Axioma launches

Started with mathematics: OGE, VPR, EGE — one-to-one and small-group lessons.

The team

The school grew into a team of teachers — each responsible for their own area

Team

A small team — each teacher responsible for their own area

Nobody takes on what isn’t their level — that’s how the school hands students to each other.

Meet the teachers

Selecting teachers

How we choose our teachers

Competence in their areaEach teacher only teaches what they know inside out — mathematics, geometry, probability, or computer science.
Experience and resultsWe look at real practice: experience breaking down topics and preparing for specific exams.
Vetted before startingBefore working with students, every teacher goes through an interview and a trial lesson.
Handing off complex casesIf a request goes beyond a teacher’s level — advanced exam, the second part — the school honestly hands it to a specialist.
The learning process

A student’s path with us

Diagnostics

A short test and, if needed, a review of a mock exam — we work out your goals and current level.

Matching a teacher and format

One-to-one or a mini-group, a single lesson or a package — with a teacher in the right area.

Learning

Live lessons, homework, and a review of mistakes after every one.

Progress tracking

Regular diagnostics of how things are moving, with the plan adjusted and feedback given as needed.

Quality control

How we keep quality in check

Progress is tracked — regular diagnostics show what’s changing and what isn’t.

Homework and review — after every lesson, not just "see you next time".

You can reach the teacher and the school — questions can go straight to them, including the founder.

Feedback for parents — on request, you can discuss how learning is going and what’s changed.

Adjusting the approach — if there’s no progress, the plan is revisited, up to changing the teacher.

Results

What students and parents say

“Two years of English now: she found a rapport in the very first lesson, the material comes across easily and clearly, and my daughter feels confident in class.”

Mother of a student · English

“My daughter had big gaps in maths. Margarita closed them in a short time and got her ready for the OGE. She got a 4 — now we are preparing for the EGE, and I am calm.”

Mother of a student · Maths OGE

“Very comfortable: online, one-to-one and in a group, communication well organised. The result — a 5 on the MCKO and more confidence for our child.”

Methodology

Our teaching principles

Diagnostics firstBefore suggesting a plan, we look at what the student already knows and can do.
Working within their specialtyEach teacher only teaches their own area — no exceptions.
A plan built for the studentThe plan is built around specific goals and gaps, not a generic template.
Live interactionA lesson in real time with a teacher, not a recording or a video course.
Reviewing mistakesAfter every lesson — a review of what didn’t work, and why.
Tracking the trendWe regularly check whether the result is actually changing, and adjust the plan.
Honest about limits

What we don’t do

We don’t promise a specific score by a specific date without diagnostics — after it, we give an honest estimate.

We don’t replace live learning with a recording — only real time with a teacher.

We don’t take on a profile that doesn’t match a teacher’s competence — we hand it to an expert.

We don’t start working blind — first we see what the student already knows.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the subject and goal: Maxim teaches mathematics, OGE, VPR and EGE; the advanced EGE is Olga Chertovikova’s; Sabrina and Margarita cover probability and statistics; Angelina Magerramova teaches mathematics in grades 5–9 and the OGE; Anastasia teaches English; Natalia Polukhina prepares students for the English OGE and EGE; Alena Nikonova teaches Russian language and literature; other areas have their own specialists. All of them are on the tutors page.
Any level — we start with diagnostics to see what the student already knows, then build the plan from there.
By subject, grade and goal — we suggest someone whose area and experience match the request. All subjects are on the subjects page.
Yes, if the format isn’t working — that can be discussed with the school separately.
Both formats exist — one-to-one or a mini-group, a single lesson or a package. Details are on the pricing page.
Yes, after every lesson — with a review of mistakes at the next one.
On request, you can discuss with the teacher or the school how learning is going and what’s changed.
Fully online — over video call, with a shared working board.
We suggest a teacher, a format and a rough plan — you then decide whether to start.
Yes — you can start with a single lesson or a free consultation through the survey.
No — nobody guarantees an exact score or date. After diagnostics we give a realistic estimate.
